    Juncos feeding on Zick Dough

I found out it is better to break up the suet dough so I crumbled it and put it on a paper plate to take out to the back yard. Just as I went out the door a Coopers Hawk flew from the trees in our back yard. Darn that sure scared the birds away for a while. So I set the dough along the back fence on the brick wall and watched and waited from inside.

Finally I started to see the birds trickle in and feeding on the Zick Dough. Yea we have a winner. I was able to get a few photos of Juncos. Kind of hard to sneak back when there is a couple of feet of snow on the ground. Yes our famous Erie weather is finally here.

I really like Juncos. I like their body shape. Little roundish bodies almost look cartoonish they are so cute. I haven't had birds at my feeders at all. I guess I need to chip the ice and snow off of them. The bluejay does come, though, and his beak can break through anything. Boy, winter really came this week!

Oh, I didn't see your first photo until now. That's a lovely painting of the Juncos. I love how you have the one looking down at the feeders from a branch.

Oh sweet and love that painting. I always call those juncos 'my snowbirds' and needless to say I don't see them in Arizona.

Great capures! I never see Juncos here. BTW my husband will be in PA all next week on a training course north of Philadelphia. Too far to visit Erie of course but I'll get him to wave! :)

When I look at your bird photo's I'm wanting to photograph some. We use to have a bird feeder on second floor balcony ... until the racoon's started climbing up the corner of our house and trying to eat the bird seed. I think now we will hang our bird feeder from a metal pole to keep the racoons discouraged.

Your paintings are really something, Toni. I'd love to have just a little of your talent.

Crumbling the dough and placing it in dishes or feeder cups here and there will really bring the birds! I sprinkle it on the ground under the feeders for the Juncos and sparrows and the rest of the ground feeders. You aren't mixing the dough for nothing. The birds will love it!

Linda I haven't had a lot of birds either. I don't know why.

Teri they sure are snow birds. I enjoy them all winter then they leave for spring and summer.

Andrea tell your husband I'll wave back. To bad he wasn't closer to me I would make him some soup.hehe

Nancy I am always getting raccoons. I just may bring my feeders in at night this summer.

    Thanks Tom.

Thanks Mary I'm not giving up on the dough. :)
