Will wonders ever cease? I hope not. And meeting awesome people through birding has been a real pleasure for me. I met Michele when I helped with bird banding last fall and she is becoming one of my favorite photo journalists . She found out that people were reporting hearing a Barred Owl at Presque Isle and drove down to have a look. Luck was on her side because as she was driving past the first vista she saw someone scoping out something so she went to have a look. Sure enough there was the owl. Michele tells me they are pretty rare on the park.
Tom of Monarchs blog has been talking about owls lately and banding with Chuck. The very first owl prowl Don and I went on was with Chuck in the Alleganey's of NY. Ever since Don and I love hearing the owls just at dusk and for a couple of years we had one near our back yard. Last year we didn't and missed hearing their call.
Thanks Michele for letting me share your photo.

Toni-
Michele sure got a great photo. I have ZERO good pictures of any types of owls, so I love seeing these images on Mon@archs and now your blog. Such fascinating creatures!

That is a great shot. I'm hoping to get in on some of the owl action and birding this year. After my knee surgery next month maybe I'll be able to get around a lot better. I have places to go and things to do and I've been a bit grounded and it's driving me crazy.
Wow, I've never even heard of a Barred Owl. How handsome.
You have such a natural love for birds ... you need to do a book on birds with your beautiful work.
A gorgeous photo of a gorgeous bird. What luck!
I can't wait for this years ANP!! This year we need to do something with all the bloggers that will be there! Yes, Chuck is great with his owls and so glad that you were able to find this Barred Owl! I don't plan on posting this but today had a Screech Owl flying around while at work today! Don't you love this time of the year?
Oh, he's pretty. I think that's the kind of owl I'd want if I lived in the Harry Potter universe :D
Tom@Ohio Nature yes they are fascinating! My husband always felt at peace when he went backpacking and heard an owl at night.
Linda I sure hope you have a quick recovery. It would be awesome if you and Matt could go to the Allegany Nature Pilgrimage this year.
Nancy thanks I do find birds and butterflies interesting.
Thanks Teri I'll let Michele know you said so.
Tom I can hardly wait myself and having a blogger meet up would be awesome.
Heather I know what you mean. I would also love an owl like this in a Harry Potter Universe. Right now my husband is reading the whole Potter series finally.
Toni, so you have been on an owl prowl, ey? I've never seen an owl in the wild much less getting a photo! Michele did good. Thanks for sharing!
Mary yes at the Nature Pilgrimage where Tom works. Chuck is one of the best and it was awesome seeing and watching Chuck call that owl in for all of us to see.
